One last practice at the Olympic Training Center
in Colorado Springs, Colorado Saturday morning and then we are off to Argentina!
At the end of practice the team always
"circles up" and shares something from a given topic: something that others might find interesting about you, favorite music, what you are looking forward to in this trip, share one impressive player who previously wore your USA number, or share with the player on your right something you liked about his practice today.
Here’s the itinerary for the trip:
Bus ride from CO Springs to Denver airport 1.5
hours
Leg One – Denver (depart 3:08) to
Houston 2+ hours
Leg Two – Houston (depart 9:15 pm) to Buenos
Aires, Argentina 10 1/2 hours
Bus ride to other Buenos Aires Airport – 1 hour
Leg Three – Buenos Aires to Bahia Bianca 1 hour
Bus Ride to hotel–
AND here's how it happened:
The trip began on Saturday in Colorado
Springs (depart the Olympic Training Center at 11:15 pm) and ended on Sunday in
Bahia Blanca, Argentina about 7 pm. It was a LONG trip but all endured it
well. Argentina time is 2 hours ahead of Central Time in my home state of
Iowa.
From start to finish the trip took about 28 hours for the flights, the bus rides, lay over and waiting time. The Houston to Buenos Aires flight took off about 10:45 pm (almost 1 ½ hours late) and most managed to sleep through the over-night flight.
A welcome sight at the Buenos Aires airport was a
McDonalds! Everyone was treated to a meal.
We checked into the Paradores Austral Hotel in Bahia Blanco and
had about 45 minutes to settle in before the bus took us to a gym for practice.
| TEAM USA ready to head to the Denver airport. |
| SO MANY bags to unload at the airport |
